James M Hewitt
Game Designer, etc
James has worked in and around tabletop games for two decades (yikes), as a retail manager, community manager, writer and game designer. He spent several years in the Games Workshop design studios, where he designed games that included Adeptus Titanicus, Necromunda and Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower. He set up Needy Cat Games in 2017, and is now looking for a new lifelong dream. In 2021 he was diagnosed with adult ADHD, which has made a lot of things make sense; sometimes he writes about it. He also writes far too much on Twitter, and has started a series of daily game design tips on TikTok. There’s a good chance that by the time you read this, it won’t have been daily for quite a while.
Sophie Williams
Game Designer, etc
Sophie is an organisational powerhouse who loves applying structure to chaos - a drive that has served her well in the tabletop games industry. She worked in several roles in the Games Workshop design studios: she coordinated a huge roster of artists, archived and managed thirty years of incredible artwork, and worked with licensing partners to ensure they got the IP right and put enough skulls on things. She joined Needy Cat Games at the start of 2018, and took to game design like a duck to water. She’s been lead designer on several games, including Ancient Grudges: Bonefields and League of Infamy, as well as some very exciting ones that haven’t been announced yet. Read her tweets or watch her make terrain on TikTok, or check out her non-game related lino prints.
Mitch Neve
Schedulemancer / Keeper of the Dates
Mitch has worked in Mobile Game Development (Publishing) in Japan for over 3 years, as an English teacher for 2-to-11 year olds, as a Fire marshal, a Campsite Zone Supervisor for music festivals, and a Sales assistant in Gamestation. He is a firm believer in sharing information; because of this, he constructed a community-driven official game wiki which he populated with over 3,500 pages using tools built to speed up the task.
At Needy Cat he handles the scheduling of multiple ongoing projects using Monday.com to keep everything on track and progressing towards completion. Twitter is his social media platform of choice and you can find it here.
Lily Hewitt
Creative Whirlwind
Lily is our enthusiastic junior game designer, illustrator and board game critic. Her feedback is invaluable, her artwork fills the walls of the Needy Cat Games studio, and she regularly reminds us that games should be fun.
After all, if they’re not, why on earth are we making them?
Sometimes, she is a Bin Robot, as pictured. We haven’t asked her to elaborate on that last part.
Hera and Helo
The Needy Cats
Helo (on the right) is the eponymous Needy Cat, and the life model for our business logo. He is on a mission to sabotage every single board game session he can find. He takes this mission seriously.
Hera (on the left) is less needy, but she’s started stepping up her game over the past couple of years in case she ever needs to fill in.
Both of them are utterly mortified that you haven’t got any treats for them. They’ll forgive you if you make sure you bring them treats next time.
Rosie
The Office Dog
Rosie is the newest addition to the team. She knows she can’t ever be a cat, but my goodness, she’s going to do her very best to be needy. And it’s the thought that counts, right?
She doesn’t really get board games as a concept, but she does know that they mean people sometimes come over in the evening, and those people might not know that they really shouldn’t feed her at the dinner table, so overall she’s generally in favour of games.
Rosie has her own desk in the Needy Cat Games office. I mean, it’s meant to be the prototyping table, but who are we to argue?
